Casey Jones Mysteries Vol. 1-6 (Casey Jones Mystery Series) (English Edition) Reviews
I enjoyed the series. It's fun, original, fresh. Much better than the Stephanie-Plum-Series. Hope there are going to be even more sequels.
I like these books, but the reason I am only giving it 3 stars is because the first 2 books were just okay. It seemed like the writing was all over the place and the storylines had a lot going on. Not sure if this was the author's first books but it didn't seem that polished or directive. I felt like I had to go back and refresh every couple of pages to follow up what was going on. Also the chapters are super long! It felt like I was reading forever before I got to a new chapter. But once you get to know the characters and see how they intertwine, the next 4 books are great. I really enjoyed them and the stories and writing got better with each book. I would recommend if you can get through the first couple of books.
On the whole I liked these books. Munger is similar to Janet Evanovich, but it seemed like the stories were a bit darker, especially book 5 which I skimmed. That book had some twists and turns. I was glad the person I thought who-done-it didn't. I liked her wise-cracking. I liked Marcus. I like the relationship between her boss and his wealthy lady friend. I loved how protective this woman is of all around her. I love how protective all are of Casey who is fearless when it comes to settling scores.I realized later I had not read book 6 yet. I liked that book best of any of them. Casey is a true heroine.
I enjoyed the books in this set until the One with the vicious rape. I don't support books or movies or tv shows that use rape to sell their product. I sure didn't expect it and didn't get much warning. So I will be more wary in the future.
Casey is just great! Not a classic beauty, a "big" girl that deals with a variety of bad guys, find people and solves crimes while indulging her considerable libido. I truly enjoyed the series and hope there is more. Casey is not a superhero - she is a hard working human being with human emotions she has to deal with on each case while dealing with her own past. However, I was really turned off by the constant eating (read pigging out" of Casey and her boss. did not help the story at all except to nearly kill one of them off. Maybe the author is trying to justify their own food addiction? Also - Casey is big and is strong she needs to beat people up a little bit more instead of being taken advantage of. Like most female P.I.s in today's novels, she really NEEDS some MMA training, as Casey has the physical attributes to use it. She also really needs to have a car that is a more suitable for her work. Tailing someone unnoticed and speeding down unpaved country roads in a vintage Porsche is highly unlikely and bound to be a disaster.
I really enjoyed the stories in the Casey Jones series. Each one had a different twist yet the familiar cast of characters tied them together.Reasons for four stars rather than five: editing - typos and wrong words such as “addition” rather than “edition.”Language - although not as profuse as in some novels, there was plenty of the worst types of profanity. If you prefer your books without cursing you might keep looking.Casey’s character - while I admired so many things about Casey such as her strength, her vulnerability in spite of her outward toughness, her code of honor, and her loyalty to her friends, her not only willingness but downright eagerness to fall into bed with virtually every male character in the series made me sad for her. While the author tried to portray her as too tough to need anyone, to me she just came across as wounded and broken, willing to exchange momentary pleasure (or lack thereof) for a genuine loving partnership. Or maybe that is just 30+ years of good marriage talking.
